The idea that an ancient city or continent became lost to the sea forever is an intriguing concept for us all. There have been many tales of legendary lands coming and going throughout history. The most famous one of all, of course, is Atlantis.

i beleive that atlantis is really a UFO that was just sitting on the water for a certian amount of time
note the fact that they were more advanced than anything imaginable,especialy for that time period, also the fact that it was an island in its own and not connected to any other land suface and that it just dissappeared under water, and there are several reports of UFOs under the water called USOs

I personaly think that the "lost city of atlantis" is at the bottom of the bermuda triangle, and that the atlanteans either created a border (bermuda triangle) or used the laws of physics to protect themselves from the modern world and anything seen as a threat is either destroyed or abducted by the atlanteans to find out about the modern world or begin experiments to become a more advanced civilization and when ready they will return to the surface and take over once more.

I do not agree with Jesse. I don't like the theory that extraterrestrial life is advanced beyond our imagination. Lets be hypothetical, lets just say there is life on other planets and galaxies. Why would they always come to earth? I'm sure astrologers would notice anything landing on the other planets. why hasn't anything like that been reported. Also, what if the life on other planets isn't extremely advanced? What if they are another race of humans who are generations behind us? what if these life forms are in the equivalent to our stone age? then surely they wouldn't have the technology to crash on our planet. My Atlantis theory is that related to Pangea. when the world separated, who's to say Atlantis was just floating there not existing on a plate. when the other land masses holding it up broke apart, it could have sunk, eroding in the water and little parts floating through the sea to all over the world. Although, i have to puncture my own theory as i believe that Pangea did not break apart until AD years. But if my theory is correct, then it would be impossible to find Atlantis. only bits of it. I think it was next to Greece as Athens is connected in this story. Or we could just take a page out of Disney's book. Atlantis is still a bustling city under the ocean and they can't remember how the technologies work after the God's got angry. Somehow I doubt the whole thing. But the story of Atlantis is still a story that makes me wonder

It must have really existed, but the mystery still exist... to many questions.. Does it really mean people in ancient times have reach its maximum potential level of their abilities? or there is someone that existed here Earth long time ago before us?

i think atlantis do exist. the problem is that not all people believe that there is such a place. we look for proofs before we can say that its true. but it can take years or even decades for that to be proven. in case there is even proof. then we say maybe its fake. like what they say, to see is to believe. as for me. i think atlantis is real.

Myths and legends are usually based upon an excisting event that might occured centuries ago. Passed down through oral traditions. The problem with this kind of knowledge is that as knowledge and technology advances, so will our causes of references expand. You could say in interpreting we are allways influenced by our own cultural references, also referred to in Barth's "the problem with knowledge". Which means with todays theories concerning UFOs etc. The Atlantians are becomming more and more brilliant in our imagination. Then again I will not exclude the possibility that there has been highly sophisticated societies and cultures. Relics from the mystical sumerians, The Antikythera Mechanism, the construction the pyramids and more. There's also the Thera-explotion and ruins in Malta that both are fairly close to Greece and accordingly has disappeared in the ocean. To me it seems highly possible that a cultural center have vanished in the sea, most lightly through and earthquake or volcanic eruption. Eventhough I would love to be proven wrong

I just think it was a powerful island who had are power like today. but it just sunk in to the ocean to be lost forever.Just think about Alexandera were cleopatrea lived and Alexander the great its not here today but every one knows it was here.

How would Plato know that there's a civilization existed 9000 years before his time? I believe that it's just an intention of Plato to express his idea of one being too "proud" and getting destroyed by ones own arrogance.
